Troop 77 - Good Water Trail 2000

When: Tuesday, May 30, 2000 and Wednesday, May 31, 2000
Where: The Good Water Trail is located at Lake Georgetown, 4 miles west of Georgetown on FM 2338.
Purpose:

Our purpose is to:

  1. Prepare for our Lone Star Hiking Trail 2000 adventure.
  2. Learn by practice long distance hiking skills.
  3. Build Patrol and Troop teamwork.
  4. Work on advancement requirements.
Cost: None.  Bring your own food (see Food  section below).

Medical 
Requirement:

All persons, Scouts and adults, must have a "Personal Health and Medical Record Form - Class 3" completed.  This requires a doctor's physical examination.

"Leave No Trace" will be practiced.  "Pack it in...pack it out."

Food:

Bring your own food and snacks.  Buddy system will be used for cooking.  Adult advisors may buddy up.  Bring trail foods.  You will need two no-cooking-required lunches, one supper, one breakfast, and snacks.
See the "Backpacking Meals" handout for some ideas.  You will need about 1.5 times the food which you normally eat at home, plus snacks.

Water:

You will need containers for two quarts of water, plus a water treatment system, e.g., iodine tablets, iodine crystals, water purifier, or clorox.  There is water available, but it must be treated.

 

Daily Schedule:

Tuesday, May 30
7:30 a.m. Meet at JRS Exxon store, FM 1431 & Lohman Ford Rd.
8:00 a.m. Depart.  Route: East on FM 1431 to I-35, north on I-35 through Georgetown, northwest on FM 2338 for 3.5 miles to Cedar Breaks Rd., south 2 miles to park entrance.  Follow signs to Cedar Breaks Park and trailhead.
9:00 a.m. Arrive at trailhead.
9:15 a.m.

Shove off on Good Water Trail.  Hike to Texas Camp (11 miles)

12:00 noon Lunch
4:00 p.m. Arrive at Texas Camp.  Make camp.
5:00 p.m. Supper
9:00 p.m. Taps

Wednesday, May 31

6:00 a.m. Reveille & breakfast
8:00 a.m. Shove off for Russell Park (5 miles)
12:00 noon Lunch at Russell Park
4:00 p.m. Rendezvous for trip home.
4:15 p.m. Load and depart for home (reverse route).
5:00 p.m. Home and Hiker's Showers  (Definition of Hiker Shower: Runs at least 15 minutes and exhausts the hot water supply.)
